Cozy spot with some appealing elements, but needs some TLC
We stayed for four days in April. The house has a kind of old farmhouse charm--including both cozy small spaces as well as more than the usual amount of dust. The fishing was slow (caught two small bass in several hours of fishing), but we came just after a cold snap, so the fishing is probably better at other times. We enjoyed paddling around the two lightweight kayaks. The house has two fireplaces, but the main one is not in an area where it is natural to sit, and the other is in a bedroom, so we did not end up using the fireplaces. We did make a fire in the fire ring outside one night. The furnishings are dated but adequate and comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchen have been remodeled and the appliances are up-to-date. Things that should probably be done to improve future guests' experience: - the house needs a set of measuring spoons and cups - the sheets on the master bed had several holes in them--these should be replaced - the windows leak quite a bit of air. We needed to put foam over the window of one of the bedrooms, where our girls slept, which helped block the draft but also blocked out the sunlight - we dealt with a moderate infestation of stink bugs. I removed probably 30 of them from the master bedroom over the four days. Thankfully, they did not stink. - as others have commented, the decking is old and worn In the end, if you like a cozy-old-farmhouse feel, and don't mind a few bugs, some dust, drafty windows, and rickety decking, this is for you. For us, the property was not quite up to par relative to other properties at this price point that we have rented in the past.
