Loved the Blue House!
We decided last minute to fly up to the Big island to try to catch some of the lava flow. My grandparents live in Hilo but we didn't want to worry about driving to the lava flow, finding parking and all of that. This was also my first attempt at using a service like VRBO and I was super nervous! Low and behold, it was amazing! It was really hard to see the house when we drove in but we found it based on the directions given. Blue house in a lava field with no lights = pitch black! The house was a beautiful get away. If you are looking for someplace that is "off the grid" this is the place to go. My cell service sucked (Tmobile) and they don't have a TV. They use a water catchment system and have solar power (yes, no sun = no hot water). I'm used to the solar power so it wasn't an issue. We were in and out and only saw Enzo once. The property was amazing (although the baby gate at the top of the stairs was not installed properly - it pops right out of the drywall). We traveled with my toddler so we just had to watch him if he got too close. Other than that, we loved it! Super close to the lava, a nice getaway, and beautiful property! If we do another trip to see the lava we will definitely try to re-book.
