(If you are from the area, visiting, or have friends/family here and would like to see the property before you rent, we would be happy to arrange a day/time!)
You'll have full access to the house, the TV room in the basement and the mudroom/back entry way. A portion of the basement and the garage are not available for guest use.
Parking in Portland is always tricky and so we suggest loading up on supplies in town and then bringing your car to Peaks on the car ferry. (During peak travel days, some boats may reach capacity requiring a wait for the next ferry) Off season cost to transport a vehicle and driver is $37 and $90 during peak season. (Search on Casco Bay Lines to confirm cost) When visiting Portland and leaving your car on the island, biking or walking are great options. Uber/Lyft rides are also great options for in town transportation.
Other things to note
WINTER ON PEAKS ISLAND: The brick house is a year-round home available to rent 12 months a year. If you are visiting during the winter, you could be here during winter weather (Snow, ice, sleet, and frigid temperatures - typical New England weather!). We have a person who plows the driveway but he isn't always able to come first thing in the morning (sometimes it can in the afternoon if he's really busy). So if you are visiting during a snow storm, you may need to use a shovel (there are two at the house). Even after the driveway is plowed, you may need to do some shoveling out of your car depending on snow drifts. We have sand available if there is ice or slippery areas. We shovel walkways and doorways typically during the week since we are often away on weekends. This also means that communication during your winter visit is likely to be by text/phone/email. We do have people on the island that can help in an emergency. The TV room in the basement is not heated and the temp is usually about 65. The main house is warm and has a great heating system. We lived in it through 4 winters and it was always cozy. Winter is a beautiful time of year on Peaks but if the idea of putting on boots and shoveling some snow or getting delayed/snowed-in causes concern, Peaks Island may not be your best choice. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Other things to note: Linens for all of the beds are in the linen closet next to the washer and dryer (or you can bring your own). There are also towels, wash clothes, and hand towels. Most are new this year or last year. If any show signs of wear or have stains, we would appreciate you setting them aside and letting us know so we can replace. If you choose to use any of the house linens, please wash, dry, and return to the linen closet. The TV room is in the basement also has a queen size bed and fold-out couch. The basement has tile flooring, natural pine walls and exposed painted ceiling. The TV is a 55" flat screen. There is AppleTV which allows you to log in to your iTunes account and access your library as well as rent movies. Kitchen counters are approximately 2" higher than standard. And while the property is not handicap accessible, there are just 3 steps to enter the house after which everything (except the tv room) are on one floor. The shower in the master bedroom has a six inch curb to step over along with a grab bar.
If you have any questions, we would be happy to provide answers!
