PLEASE NOTE: We have retired and now live at Cove House part-time, between extended months-long trips. We therefore only open our availability calendar for a few months at a time, when our travel plans are set.
Regretfully, it does not look like we will be able to take any extended trips or rent out Cove House in 2017. We hope to resume our travels (and renting Cove House) sometime in 2018.
Perched at the edge of a bluff overlooking some of the most spectacular coastline in Northern California, Cove House is a place where you can close the gates and withdraw from the world. The house faces west-southwest on a fenced acre and a half, with private access to the cove below. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or an armchair naturalist, you'll be mesmerized by the abundant sea and bird life: whales, sea lions, hawks, gulls, pelicans, egrets, herons, and even an occasional otter. Sunset and star-gazing from the hot tub are not to be missed!
This charming home is light and airy with white-washed wood beamed ceilings and comfortable cottage-style furnishings. The ocean-side bedroom provides direct ocean views and deck access. A second bedroom is paneled in knotty pine and has the look and feel of a vintage cabin.
The living room entertainment center has satellite TV, and is stocked with books, board games, and movies for your enjoyment. The adjacent sun room leads to a large deck with a hot tub that feels suspended over the cove. Both the living areas and the deck offer dramatic views of the cove below, as well as offshore islands and the extensive series of bluffs that make up the North Coast.
As a bonus, our seaside meadow offers its own jaw-dropping views -- ideal for a leisurely game of croquet or horseshoes (both provided). Or curl up in an Adirondack chair with a good book, some wine and cheese, and the surf lapping in the cove below. If you haven't brought a book, our library is far more extensive and literate than most vacation rentals.
The Gualala stretch of Highway One is the mid-point of a drive Coastal Living magazine recently named the most scenic coastal drive in North America. The town of Gualala enjoys a 'banana belt' microclimate, with sun and mild temperatures much of the year - along with the occasional whopping coastal storm. Winter guests will enjoy the coziness of a warm fire in the glass-front wood stove.
The world-renowned Sea Ranch golf course is located just ten minutes south of Cove House and is open to the public. Kayaks can be rented in town. There are several excellent restaurants in the area. The lovingly-restored Point Arena Theater offers first-run movies and regularly hosts concerts.
Cove House is a wonderful place to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary, or just to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a few days. Kick off your shoes, prop up your feet, and stay awhile!+ More
