If you're going on vacation, why not travel back in time to the middle of the 20th century? Camp Bang-up's lakeside cabin is part of two lakeside cabins on Island Pond in Hampstead, NH frozen in time to refresh your mind, body, and soul. Now your family can leave the trappings of the 21st century behind and spend a week or more doing the following:
-- lying in a hammock by the water reading book after book
-- spending no time with wifi or television
-- more swimming
-- going out in the rowboat and picking blueberries on Treasure Island
-- sun-bathing for hours out on the raft
-- watch your children spend hours outdoors exercising their imaginations in the woods that surround the cabins
It's been called the best swimming spot on Island Pond and with good reason. The shore gently curves in to provide a sandy shore that's sheltered from passing boats. A child-friendly depth with plenty of adult-supervision space. Climb on board an old tire tube and float gently along the shore front and study leaves and branches.
And, then the sun sets in a blaze of glory in the western sky straight across from the shoreline. It's a spectacular sunset. And, once your family is done watching the sun say good night, you can listen for hours to the quiet of the night where rarely is heard anything that is not a frog croaking or a cricket cricketing.
::ONE HOUR FROM BOSTON, A LITTLE MORE FROM PORTLAND, MAINE:: Camp Bang-up is only one hour north of Boston (about an hour and a half from Portland Maine) so if you have to work or go into town, you can. You can either drive in or take the commuter train from nearby Haverhill. In fact, many of the residents in Hampstead commute every day into Boston. Camp Bang-up is easy to get to but still takes you far away from where you are every day.
::CHOOSE A CABIN OR TAKE BOTH::
Camp Bang-up is a single compound with two cabins, each sleeping four comfortably. While they have running water and electricity, neither is outfitted with cable television or internet access. Each has a full kitchen, each has one main bedroom and a sleeping dorm. Many of our renters take both cabins for a week and enjoy a larger multi-family vacation.+ More
