Ovens Reef House stands near the edge of a cliff overlooking Rose Bay on Nova Scotia's scenic South Shore. The five acre property is comprised of a two-story home and guesthouse (cottage) set between forest and lawn. It offers three bedrooms in total. The location is secluded but not remote. The village of Kingsburg, Hirtle's Beach and the hiking trails of Gaff Point are a short drive away on diverting coastal roads. The picturesque towns of Lunenburg can be reached by car is just over 10 minutes and Mahone Bay is only 20 minutes away.
The 'infinity lawn' runs along the cliff's edge for almost 800 feet and provides elevated and stunning views of Rose Bay, Ovens Reef and the Atlantic. Although modest in its proportions the property has an estate-like disposition.
The house was designed in the Cape Cod-style with an open plan interior.
On the ground floor there is no formal separation between the hallway, salon, library, dining area and kitchen.
The kitchen is made of concrete and butcher-block. The kitchen island features a glass bar where guests may gather to engage with those preparing the meals. The hob is a six-burner Wolf gas range. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious pantry with a generous array of shelves, cooking tools and an overhead rack of pots and pans. A combined laundry and mudroom, as well as a half bath, complete the open plan of the ground floor.
A staircase in the lofty entrance hall leads to a spacious landing on the top floor. It is flanked by two bedrooms and a roomy master bath. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and captivating views of Rose Bay. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. Both bedrooms have extensive storage space: closets, drawers and built in wardrobes of birch and maple.
The tub in the master bath allows one to soak up the view and the separate shower area has a tactile natural slate floor with a ceiling-mounted rainfall shower head.+ More
