This is a lovely, sunny, well-equipped, semi-quiet apartment in Park Slope (9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenues) available most days of the year. It is a private space- all yours! Includes dishwasher, laundry, wifi, coffee maker, microwave, 100% cotton fresh towels and bed linens. All you need is a change of clothes, toiletries, and personal items. The bedrooms are private from the common space with antique glass and wood pocket doors and a heavy curtain, but not totally private from each other: there is a divider wall, but no door between the two bedrooms. There is a queen bed in one bedroom, a twin in the other, and a twin/daybed in the common room. This apartment has free high speed wifi internet, and limited cable TV. There are two ceiling fans, and an air conditioner in the window of the bedroom with the queen bed.
(By the way, we have another similar apartment to this one on the floor below; send up an inquiry if you are interested in renting two apartments.)
(When you book, do not be alarmed at the extra $100 security deposit fee- you'll get that back soon after you check out!)
The apartment is 1/2 block from the M, R, and F trains, which bring you to lower Manhattan within 20 minutes, and central Manhattan in about 45 minutes. Walk up 9th Street 4-1/2 blocks and you're in the 585-acre Prospect Park (Brooklyn's equivalent of Central Park), the huge Harmony Playground, and the renowned Bandshell for live, free performances all summer. Within one block of the apartment is a large well-stocked grocery store, several pharmacies and banks, dry cleaners/laundromat, and the post office. Continue down 5th Avenue and you'll find dozens of highly regarded restaurants (like the famous Al Di La reviewed in the New York Times) as well as tons of ethnic places (Mexican, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, etc), boutiques, coffee shops (Martin's, Gorilla Coffee), patisseries (Blue Sky Bakery, Colson Patisserie), and bars. Up on 7th Avenue, you'll find more of the same, plus larger stores like Barnes & Noble and Starbucks. This is truly a great location from which to access most of New York City's landmarks, features, and fun. Also, it borders Park Slope's historic, landmarked neighborhood, which provides charming local walks and explorations. If you wanted an apartment from which to easily get to Manhattan, you'll probably find yourself falling in love with Brooklyn instead.
In 2009 I moved with my family to a rural area north of the city, and when I am not visiting or working in Brooklyn I rent out my apartment. My friend Sandye helps manage the bookings and guest questions. I've kept it furnished and equipped so that you have what you need for comfort and to live like a local. The apartment is located in charming, historical, and sometimes gritty Park Slope, what many people consider to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in all of New York City, on 9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. In 2010 it was ranked #1 in New York by New York Magazine citing its quality schools, dining, nightlife, shopping, access to public transit, green space, quality housing, safety, and creative capital. It was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2007, "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses, all of which are supported and preserved by its active and involved citizenry". In December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods based on criteria including parks, green spaces and neighborhood gathering spaces; farmer's markets and community gardens; public transportation and locally owned businesses; and environmental and social policy.
Amazing location, cozy and comfortable apartment, great for kids - this is what we wanted and what we got. Sandye was extremely helpful whenever we needed something. Would surely use again in my next visit. -Raanan
Wonderful place to stay for the weekend. Apartment was cute and clean, and Sandye provided extensive tips for places to go around the neighborhood. The apartment is also in a great location, right by the subway. -Margaret
Sandye was great and a wealth of information! The apartment was clean and family friendly. It had great access to the subway and was quiet. The apartment is really close to lots of cool shops and restaurants too! Can't wait to go back! -Monica
Wonderful experience! Pick-up was easy, the apartment was as-described -- clean, cute, comfortable. A pleasure! -Brad
My family and I spent nearly a month in this apartment. We enjoyed a magic Christmas and New Year in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, the Rockettes, shopping in Midtown, Christmas Eve at St Patrick's and opening presents under the Rockefeller Tree. From the proximity to the subway to the choice of local shopping, Park Slope is a charming neighbourhood to live in. It is easy to get to the city but we spent many days just exploring Brooklyn. The kids skated and my wife went running in Prospect Park. We found a local cafe and started every day there. We even became fans of the Brooklyn Nets and NY Islanders, who play home games at the Barclays Centre - just up 5th avenue. The apartment was our home away from home for over three weeks. It had plenty of space for the four of us and the full sized kitchen and laundry facilities inside the apartment were welcomed. In addition, the library of books and on demand television kept us entertained on those nights we stayed in. Sandye was the perfect host. Her communication leading up to our visit built our excitement. The instructions she left to access, live and ultimately depart the apartment were clear and helpful. And the tips she gave us about local restaurants and attractions showed how much she loves the area. I can't speak highly enough of our time here. We will be back. -Richard
Nice, clean place. easy access to the subway. would recommend it, and come back again. -Connor
Sandy was a great host, very quick in relying to all our questions and very accommidating through out. The apartmant was very clean and as described. We had our 2 daugthers who are 1 and 3. They both loved it, our 3 year old had the small bed in the split bedroom and our 1 year old had the cot supplied by Sandye, The cot just fits on the end of the single bed which is separated by the master bedroom with a half wall, no door separates you from the kids but they can't see you. There was a little highchair boost seat you strap to a chair too. On the 3rd floor so had to carry the kids and push chair up but we didn't mind, If your unfit then maybe that would be a problem, but it helped us work off the amount yummy food available which surrounds you! The flat is on 4th Av which is great for 2 tubes into Manhattan (about 30 mins to central Manhattan), but you need to go 2/3 blocks up to get to the really nice Brown Stone/ Park Slope area where it gets a little more up market. One thing which was a negative is not being met with the keys, we had to go and pick them up from Sandy's house, its only around the corner but doing that with the kids after traveling was a bit of a pain. I would stay at Sandye's again though! A great place. -Gary
This is a great find. Perfect for 2 adults and a child and very kid friendly (my son is 4). The owners have a fantastic book collection (for adults and kids) in case you get bored. We also appreciated the homey decor and creative touches throughout the apartment. The kitchen was very well equipped - our stay included cooking and baking several items to bring to a Thanksgiving dinner. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit my family in Park Slope. -Francie
It was great to experience the arrival and reception, everything was well planned, transfer of keys and location apartment. We got in and right away felt "home away from home"! Nice practical lay out, kitchen well equipped. We used it several times as it was more convenient and cosy to prepare the meals in house. Shops restaurants and other retail locations in abundance. Fantastic location for the NY Marathon watchers and followers, the race is practically in front of the house and we cheered the runners with enthusiasm. For the purpose of our visit, attending the marriage of our son here in Brooklyn, ideal! The subsequent visits to NYC were due to the Subway entrance being around the corner a breeze. Due to this subway location and roads around the apartment the traffic noise was, in particular during early morning hours, irritating. Would recommend this apartment to anybody that has obligations in Brooklyn that need to be combined with touristic aspirations in the area. -Jos
The listing was clean and as described. The queen size bed was comfortable. Bed linens and towels were great. The building was quiet. There was some street noise, but did not disturb sleep. Sandye was most communicative and all directions were clear. All in all, easy and convenient. -Donna
My wife and I traveled to Brooklyn with our 1.5 year old daughter and had a great time staying in Anna and Sandye's apartment. We previously lived in New York, so had been in many Brooklyn/Park Slope apartments, and this one provides a true Brooklyn experience. That is - it's an old building, so it has narrow stairs that lean slightly to one side (this apartment is the top floor of a 4th-floor walk-up), and the walls/floors/ceilings transmit sound, so you need to be careful not to make too much noise. But those are going to be "issues" with just about any apartment in this area. Once inside, the place is clean, and as described in the listing. Sandye was clear in her communication, so getting the keys and checking out were both seamless. The kitchen was well-equipped, but why would you cook when you're so close to so many great restaurants? The location is fantastic. As mentioned, there's lots of great food, but also good shopping on 5th and 7th Avenues.+ More
