The Setting

Welcome to the Top of the Hill, Irishtown, P.E.I.

This unique house is located on one of the highest points of land in Prince Edward Island, and forms part of a 300 acre estate of meadows, farm and woodland. Within sight of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the house and nearby barn were long used as a landmark by fishing vessels and sea mariners far out at sea to guide them back to shore.

The house is centrally located, yet far removed from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded tourist areas of Prince Edward Island.

â??Top of the Hillâ? is part of a 300-acre estate combining two farms that were in the Mann family for well over a century. On the opposite side of the Irishtown Road from the house, a 66-acre parcel contains a beautiful stand of maple and spruce. The house itself is located on the farm of 110 acres which belonged to the ownerâ??s grandfather, and adjoins another 130 acres that belonged to the ownerâ??s great-grandfather.

Walking to the back of the property some 2 kms. from the house, you will be constantly amazed by the beautiful vistas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Southwest River, Malpeque Bay, and the hills and valleys of the P.E.I. countryside.

Bedroom Description

FIRST FLOOR

Deck and Sunporch â?? A large wrap-around deck features 3 doorways to the main level. Entering the southern-most doorway, you will enter a large light-filled sunporch with oak floors, cathedral pine ceilings and antique fixtures. With its beautiful views of Irishtown and nearby communities, including the outskirts of Summerside.

Living Room â?? The double French doors from the sunporch will take you to a large living room with a gas fireplace surrounded by marble and the original pine mantle, an open stairway to the second floor, and two oak doors leading, respectively, to the dining room and kitchen.

Dining Room â?? Passing through the doorway to the dining room, you will be immediately attracted to the large windows on two sides, featuring beautiful farmland and forest of the rolling hills of Irishtown and leading to the Gulf of St. Lawrence some 4 kms. distant.

Kitchen â?? With 6 beautiful white appliances and new cherry-stained birch cabinets, you will realize that it is possible to combine the conveniences of the 21st century with the ambience of the 19th century.

SECOND FLOOR

Master Bedroom â?? The large south-facing master bedroom is fully furnished with a queen-sized bed, and features a pine mantle from the original home, three windows surrounded by beautiful oak trim, a walk-in closet and a 4-piece ensuite bath with oak cabinets.

Second Bedroom â?? The second bedroom is fully furnished with a double bed and features a walk-out to a large deck overlooking the Gulf.

Main Bath â?? The large main bathroom features a large jacuzzi tub, separate shower, oak cabinet and ceramic tiles and floor.

THIRD FLOOR

With three large dormers and five arched windows, and harvest oak floors, this room offers a cozy setting with unparalleled views on all sides over many miles of P.E.I. countryside and Gulf of St. Lawrence. With a large closet and storage areas and a pull-out sofa, the loft may be easily converted to a large third bedroom.

Location Description

Top of the Hill farmhouse is located on the Irishtown Road (Route 101) approximately mid-way between the town of Kensington and the seashore community of Park Corner.

The community of Irishtown is a pastoral farm district with rolling hills and farmland that has remained virtually unchanged since it was founded two centuries ago. At the centre of the district, located just 1 km. from the Top of the Hill, you will find a beautiful church and cemetery and the community hall that was the centre of life for many generations. Here also, you will find a little pumphouse, a reminder of the one-room school that stood on this location throughout much of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Kensington is often described as the â??heart of the Islandâ?, the centre of a prosperous farm area and the site of an historic train station that features prominently in the Lucy Maud Montgomery novels.

Park Corner is the ancestral home of the Montgomerys, and the location of Silver Bush where Lucy Maud Montgomery spent much of her childhood and was married in 1911. Adjoining Silver Bush is the Lake of Shining Waters which featured prominently in the Montgomery novels.

Park Corner is also the location of Cousins Shore, one of the most beautiful white sand beaches of P.E.I. which was featured in a special Canadian coin that was minted to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Confederation. h

Balance of rental fee is required 2 weeks prior to start of rental.

Rental fee is non-refundable, unless house is rented, in which case, rental fee less deposit will be retained as an administration charge.

Check-in time: after 3:30 p.m. Saturday; check-out time: by 10:30 a.m. Saturday. (Alternative arrangements may be made, subject to availability).

Please note that Top of the Hill is also available for long-term rentals at reduced rates.
