Be among 1st to stay in our custom designed tree dwelling! Experience the airiness of life up among the pines. Unique structures perched atop 21-acre wooded hill sloping to water views. Set in classic coastal Maine village w/beach+lobster. King Bed.
We invite you to the first season of this custom built tree dwelling. This newly completed abode is called "Madawaska", which means "where two rivers join". Part tree house, part tiny house, the dwelling consists of two elevated structures connected by a private deck (with trees growing up through).
The deck and structures are accessed by a beautiful wooden spiral staircase.
We've used vintage and salvaged materials when possible.
STRUCTURE #1: a bedroom, with an entire wall of south facing windows, affording stunning river views. Includes KING SIZE BED (or two twin beds upon request). STRUCTURE #2: includes a small kitchen and small dining area with large windows for water views, a small full bathroom, and a screened-in porch with sitting area, and river views. Kitchen includes: two-burner stove, sink, small fridge, pots, pans, dishes, toaster oven (no regular oven). Both structures have views across a river bay, and down river to where the Back River meets the Kennebec River (hence "Madawaska") just before both flow into open ocean, past Seguin Island (where George Washington commissioned a lighthouse). Across the Back River lie hundreds of acres of pristine conservation land. Part of the year, this tree dwelling will be used for the Seguin Artist in Residence Program at the Back River Institute, which is under development. CANOES and KAYAK'S are available for a small fee if you book in advance.
The space and the 21 acre property are yours. There is one other one-bedroom tree dwelling on the property, which is rentable. In addition, guests have access to adjoining 40 acre peninsula with docks, trails and cottages.
Interaction with Guests
We live on adjoining property. So we can meet you in person upon arrival and someone can always be available by phone or in-person for local tips and problem solving.
We are located in the picturesque coastal village of Georgetown, Maine (which includes Five Islands). Reid State Park, with its beautiful, sandy beaches and hiking trails, is just a few miles from us, further into Georgetown. Be sure to visit the Five Islands Lobster Co. for best lobsters, lobster rolls, fish sandwiches, corn on the cob--and harbor views. Five Islands Farm and Gourmet Market is an excellent source of fine wine, beers, local produce, meats, cheeses, gifts. We are a ten minute drive from the town of Bath Maine, which has a great coffee shop (Cafe Creme), bookstore (the Mustard Seed), deli (the Living Edge), grocery store (Bracket's Market), health food store (Bath Natural Market), great yoga studio (Ebb and Flow), BBQ (Beale St. BBQ), fine dining (Solo Bistro), Maine Maritime Museum, and locally famous Reny's!
We are 20 minutes from Brunswick with Bowdoin College, Sea Dog Brewery, Gelato Fiasco!, coffee shops, great restaurants and bar/restaurant/hangout (Frontier), indie movie theatre with couches (The Starlight).
We are 30 minutes from Freeport, for original L.L. Bean store and outlets.
We are 45 minutes from Portland, with its exploding, world-class restaurant/foodie scene.
No public transportation here. But easy to get to by car or bike.
Other Things to Note
Big Note: this tree dwelling is almost finished. The final details will be completed in the coming weeks and it will be available for rent starting in June. At that time we can add more detailed pictures of the place. For now, we've included our design sketches and in-progress pics--so you can feel like part of the process. You'll be among the first to dwell in these unique spaces!+ More
