Our large ground-floor home is easily accessible from the parking area in front, and from the gardens in back. Seniors will appreciate the lack of stairs, and families the safety and privacy of the huge lawns out back that extend to the Kona Country Club next door. Ocean access is just a short walk from our garden-facing lanai. The large fully-equipped kitchen, complete with dishwasher, is waiting, and a lovely dining area sits between the kitchen and bright living room. A fully-screened lanai wraps around 2 sides of this corner unit and is perfect for dining, or just resting, any time of year. Delightful flowers and banana palms are just outside, along with a chorus of colorful Hawaiian birds. There are ceiling fans in every room and on the lanai.
The master bedroom has a queen bed with bright tropical bedding, and a full bathroom with tub and shower. Plumeria and flowers just outside provide privacy.
The second bedroom has two twin size beds set up as a L-shaped sofa. The sliding soji screens can be closed to provide privacy, or left open as you prefer. The second bath has a walk-in shower along with a full-sized washer and dryer.
Explore outside; three newly-resurfaced and lighted tennis courts, the swimming pool and pavilion are right next to an ancient Hawaiian dwelling; walk down to the black sand beach to collect shells, look for sea turtles, discover ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs carved in the lava rock, or hike along the rugged lava shoreline and look for the moray eels that hide in the crevices. Just a short stroll beyond the beach takes you to Kahalu’u, one of the finest snorkel beaches on the island. At Kahalu’u you can relax, look for turtles, or take surfing lessons.
Our complex is quiet and safe, with gardens, pavilions, 3 newly-resurfaced and lighted tennis courts, a large completely-redone pool. There are propane grills throughout for your use. The Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club is close to shopping, restaurants and unlimited beach activities. World class golf is within minutes at the next-door public Kona Country Club. One of the most amazing children’s playgrounds ever is located just few miles south, on the road to Captain Cook. It looks like a storybook castle.
In October, the annual IRONMAN takes place in nearby Kailua-Kona, a vibrant village just 5 miles up famous Ali’i Drive. The final run comes right down Ali’i. A scheduled shuttle bus runs up and down this ocean front drive several times a day.
Manta Rays are found in few places, but nearby Keauhou Bay is one of them! You can see them at night from the Sheraton Hotel. Many companies offer snorkeling or diving tours, to see these huge and gentle creatures close up.
Up the hill you will find yourself in “Old Hawaii.” Here you find coffee and mac nut plantations, historic villages like Kealakekua and Holualoa, wild groves of papaya, guava and mango. The cool elevations can be a welcome contrast to the sunny and dry weather that has made the Kona Coast a favorite destination for generations of Hawaiians and visitors alike.
A short walk up the hill takes you to the Keauhou Shopping Center with an excellent grocery, restaurants, a pharmacy and a variety of stores. Free hula shows and music are held at the center most weekends, along with a Saturday farmer’s market for fresh fish, flowers, and food! There is also a larger market during the week down in “town”, easily reached on the trolley, bike or car.
