VACATION RENTAL ON SILVER LAKE BETWEEN SHARBOT LAKE, PERTH & WESTPORT

Swim or boat in our crystal clear lake or relax under shade pines. Dine on the deck overlooking the lake, or, on the side deck or inside by the kitchen. Paddle to the waterfalls and watch for beaver and muskrat activity. Keep an eye out for loons and many other water birds. Share family memories around the fire pit. Hike the lane past yesterday's farm buildings. Look for birds and other animals. Deer abound in the fields.

We are located on the Canadian Shield, a land of rock outcrops , spring feed lakes and wooded meadows. Its home to numerous birds , white tailed deer, beaver, muskrats,wild turkeys and numerous squirrels.

A true cottage experience for young and old awaits. The cottage and property offer campfires, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, photography and sightseeing.

Drive to the cottage on Ontario's HWY # 7 which connects Ottawa and Toronto. Easily find the Zealand Road at Sharbot Lake east or via the Elphin Road at Maberly. We are on the north side of the Lake away from the crowds off Harding Lane. Your GPS will find the cottage by keying in Central Frontenac Township as the city. We are close to historic Perth, Rideau Canal's Westport, and beautiful Sharbot Lake.

Tricks To Make Life Easier!

Expand your living area on the decks!

The cottage interior is sufficiently large for 5 adults but when you need more elbow room the decks are a real pleasure. The south deck houses the barbecue and several chairs ; it's good for the afternoon sun and a quiet place to read; the front porch has a built in coffee nook were you may sit and watch the sunrise while enjoying your morning coffee. The deck by the lake is great to enjoy your meals and relax with the warm breeze that blows across the lake on those hot summer days. Also you can monitor your swimmers easily from here.

Drinking Water:

We will supply some drinking water from our well to get you started and you are responsible for additional drinking water.

Driving and parking your car at the cottage.

Harding Lane is a dandy single car lane. Six cottages use the lane and most times you will not meet another vehicle . Sometimes you do. So stop , observe who has the better location to pull over and pass carefully. At the end of our driveway there is a lot of room to turn around and park one car . However I would suggest any second vehicle, trailer or cube van be parked at the top of the hill to avoid any problem. Leaving the parking area requires you to drive up a steep grade. I suggest low gear and steady speed to avoid spinning.

Bedroom Description

The upstairs loft bedroom contains one double bed, a single bed and in an open concept adjoining room a single bed in a pull-out sofa.

Vacationers using the upstairs must be able to climb stairs to this loft. We have one double bed on the main floor for people unable to climb stairs.

Location Description

Swimming

A small rock point defines two different swimming areas. The beach area on the northerly side of the point is sand and rock and has a gentle slope to deeper water (good for children). The rocks are slippery and care is required when walking on them. Water shoes are recommended. The area to the south of the point drops off to 3 meters or more .

Boating

We provide 2 kayaks and paddles for your use but would request you supply your own life preservers as these should be fitted to the size and weight of the paddler . There is a small water fall that is a short paddle away and fun to see .

Campfires

A campfire pit and adequate wood is available for you . The Fire Department considers a campfire to be small and contained in a fire-pit. We have taken out a permit for a campfire from the township. Do drown the fire so it is out at he end of each day or experience. My experience is to control the fire by sprinkling small amounts of water on it to keep the flames down to no higher than 2 feet. This does not put out the fire and allows you to manage the burn. When the Fire Department issues a â??NO BURN BANâ? not even a campfire is allowed .

Cut down no live trees .

Hiking and Jogging

Harding Lane is an excellent trail to hike or jog on. Watch for animals and if there is evidence of bears carry a bell or other noise maker .

Other Opportunities

The area has many facilities away from the cottage to exercise you body and mind. Maberly and Sharbot Lake have a public tennis court. Six golf course are within 40 km. Horseback riding, hiking and biking are popular.

Reservations--$100.00 deposit prior to March 01/2017: 50% of total after: Cancellation until 2 month prior to arrival with $50.00 administration charge. NOTE: We request that payment be by e-transfer from your bank to me-Doug Steele via email.

Rental Fees and the HST We prefer e-transfers from your bank. I send a note with the balance owing from the banks' note box and you keep this for your receipt. If paying by cheque: Make cheque payable to Doug Steele. When paying with two cheques: include a postdated cheque, dated 60 days prior to the start of your vacation, with the initial deposit letter. Last Minute Rentals: Rentals arranged within 60 days prior to taking occupancy will require a cash payment in full on completion of the rental agreement. Daily or Weekend Rentals: Weekend rental reservations (Spring and Fall) that are made in advance will require payment in full. Daily rentals of indeterminate duration: Contact us!
