You are vacationing in Atlantic City, perhaps the best-known seaside resort in New Jersey. You are close to the Boardwalk. Make sure to visit:
The Steel Pier
Family-Friendly Ocean City
Lucy the Margate Elephant
Atlantic City Aquarium
Atlantic City Historical Museum
African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey
Atlantic City Art Center
The best way to get around in Atlantic City is on your own two feet – most attractions are within walking distance of one another. If you're worn out from walking, you can hop on the AC's Jitney minibuses or be pushed along the boardwalk in a shaded rolling chair. Cars are convenient in Atlantic City as well, especially if you'll be traveling beyond the city limits. Rental agencies have offices in both of the nearby airports; the Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) is about 15 miles northwest of downtown AC while the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is around 65 miles northwest.
New Jersey Transit services Atlantic City from Philadelphia only: The Atlantic City Rail Line takes about an hour one-way. The Atlantic City Express Train Service runs from New York City, making one stop in Newark, New Jersey. Fares for the double-decker train depend on availability and class. A free shuttle operates between the train terminal and major casinos in the city.
Cars are relatively convenient in Atlantic City, and you can find rental agencies in both airports. Parking is plentiful and surprisingly affordable at most casinos. Renting a car isn't necessary if you plan on spending the majority of your time between the beach, the boardwalk and the casinos. If you'll be venturing further afield to nearby attractions like Cape May and Storybook Land, though, you'll likely need a set of wheels.
The Atlantic City Jitney is inexpensive and runs 24 hours a day. The minibuses operate along Pacific Avenue and make stops at casinos and major attractions in the city.+ More
