This is an enchanted, spacious post and beam home on 21 acres of pristine forest land located in Weston, Vermont, right off scenic RT 100. It is a peaceful place, perfect for relief of city sufferings and a great vacation.
It is nestled in the woods on the side of a mountain and is secluded but within a few miles of stores and restaurants and local attractions. You hear the birds and the babbling streams and the bells from The Weston Priory and can hike on trails right out the door. There are several hammocks on the property as well as the Peace Porch for relaxing, reading, drinking coffee or conversing while admiring the natural world or watching the sun set. There is an outside fire pit as well as a gas grill.
There is a pond and an outdoor wood burning sauna. There are two "museums" on the property which once housed samples and relics from the forest. These can be viewed but are no longer active. Ike Patch the creator of the home and property loved the natural world and the forest he lived in.
He created the modern day stonehenge right here on the property. You can view nearly 200 menhirs (large tall rocks) which he by hand moved into an isosceles triangle on the property. There are also cairns and inscribed stones remembering important people and relationships. There is a boardwalk over a swamp about 1/2 mile from the house. For more about this visionary and life of this amazing man, go to his obituary in The Economist:
The house has high ceilings and many big windows, bringing the outdoors indoors. The bedrooms all have very comfortable beds and top shelf linens and pillows.
There is a beautiful fireplace in a big open living room, also with gorgeous views. The kitchen is also big and fully stocked. There is a ping pong table and dart board in the basement. Everyone who visits says you can feel the love and there is a general welcoming and relaxed feeling in the home.
You can bring your whole self here and feel good no matter what. We have many musical instruments in the house including a baby grand piano, a guitar, an accordion, a trumpet and percussion instruments which are all available to play. There is no TV, but there is wifi.
We are within a few miles of the famous Weston Playhouse with professional plays and musicals all summer long, The Weston Priory, The Kinhaven Music School with free concerts all summer and the popular and family owned Vermont Country Store. There is a rodeo in nearby Castleton . And you can visit local farms and buy Vermont's artisan cheeses.
And in ski season we are within close distance of Okemo, Stratton, Bromley and Magic Mountains. Killington is a bit further, a 45 min trip.
It's a perfect place for a couple, a group of friends or a family. Vermont is a wonderful getaway with so much to offer in the summer, fall and winter. If you visit in April be ready for mud!+ More
