About the vintage trailer park:
Desert Sands Vintage Trailer Park est. in 1960 and is the oldest RV park in Borrego Springs which has mostly vintage trailers, some of the best landscaping for miles, breathtaking views, epic sunsets, bright starry nights and happy guests. If you've ever wanted to stay in a cool vintage trailer, this heaven. The pool is warm year round. Borrego Springs has warm sunny weather year round so if you love the outdoors you will enjoy staying here. We have guests that have been coming back for years.
About the vintage trailer:
"Blue Bertha" is an original 1956 Ideal vintage trailer that has been totally refurbished with new paint, hardwood floors, kitchen, tiles, new kitchenware etc. She is 60 years old so please be gentle with her. Lots of storage for your belongings. There is a fold down futon bed in the living area and a full size bed in the rear bedroom. If you find you do not like the futon bed there is a queen blowup mattress in the closet for you to use.
The bathroom has a full sink, real house toilet and a 1/2 size bathtub with shower head. It sits on its own private space close to the pool, Jacuzzi, laundry room and clubclubhouse that has free WIFI. The trailer has many windows and has a very airy feeling with spectacular views of the mountains from the living room, kitchen and bedroom.
Even though to the untrained eye the desert looks dry and desolate, once you spend a night in the middle of it all you may hear the howl of a coyote in the distance, in the morning you might wake up to the sounds of different kinds of birds, while sitting outside drinking your morning coffee you'll see rabbits, humming birds, lizards etc. Besides the regular bedding on the bed I have put a king size blanket in the closet if you feel a little chilly but with the heater you should be fine.
When you arrive I will leave a key for you or have the park manager meet you with a key if he is not on his day off. You have the use of the vintage trailer and the space that it sits on. You also have access to the pool, Jacuzzi and laundry room which takes quarters.
How to find the trailer once inside the park:
As you enter the rv park drive up a slight grade "Blue Bertha" is the 5th trailer on the right in space # 64
Interaction with guests:
I live in San Diego 78 miles away and try get to the vintage trailer park as much as I can because I love it so much out there. The park manager, Tom is very helpful who lives on the property. He is off every Thursday and heads into San Diego but I will be available for any questions you may have if you contact me.
Desert Sands RV Park is just a stroll to Anza Borrego State Park, the largest in the state , art and culture, restaurants, bars and dining, great views, and the rustic artsy town of Borrego Springs that doesn't even have a traffic light or any big chain stores. There are numerous golf resorts within a 5 mile radius.
There are hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain biking, road biking, off roading close by, mountain views, and points of interest. The state run visitor center us just up the street and has many interesting things regarding life in the pre historic desert.
The drive into town is roughly one mile away. You walk, drive or you can bring your bicycles and start exploring. Behind the RV park is a small mountain where you can take a morning stroll to the top and capture some beautiful images with your camera.
Other things to note:
The vintage trailer park is a very quiet quaint park. VERY IMPORTANT - Other guests of the park must not be bothered by noise, partying, loud talking or shouting etc. If you do bring kids that is fine but no horsing around, noise, bothering other guests, splashing in the pool etc.
Borrego Springs is a dark sky community meaning there are no bright white lights and people use deep orange lights on homes and buildings so that the stars and moon can shine as bright as possible.
*There is wireless internet which is only in close proximity to the office (closed). Normally its at an acceptable speed but may be slower at times. There is only one provider in our small town.
The laundry is located at the center of the park and takes quarters.
The pool and Jacuzzi are located at the center of the park
- The public showers and bathrooms are at the center of the park if you choose not to shower in the vintage trailer which may be a little cramped for showering and the hot water heater in the trailer is quite small and you may run out of hot water.
