There is a 'party' shed located right on the water's edge for grilling and relaxing. Picnic tables are abundant in the party shed and in the yard. There is also a hammock for naps on the water's edge.
The former owner, Jak Smyrl, was one of South Carolina's most noteworthy artists. He worked at the 'State Newspaper' for many years, designing cartoons, and bringing humor into people's homes with his varied features. His drawing table is still in the studio. The McKissick Museum, South Caroliniana Library, and the Camden Arts Center have all held exhibitions of Mr. Smyrl's work. Mr. Smyrl was recognized for his contributions to the State by the South Carolina Legislature. Mr. Smyrl's great love of life - and all of his fascinating interests and hobbies - is evident in the house. Here you will find art work, books, and charm galore!
This cabin is comfortable, homey, and an artist's paradise! The small deck (off the screened-in porch) is 'furnished' with one of Mr. Smyrl's hand crafted tables and benches and is the perfect place for drawing and sketching.
Here, you see will see a great variety of bird life. There are numerous aquatic birds, song birds, owls, etc. The large lot is fenced with a split rail fence so there is abundance of privacy.
The water is clean so swimming off the end of the dock is excellent. Throw in a line and catch bream, catfish, etc.
Please note that boats must be launched from the public marina which is two or three miles from the house (by land). You may find that the gate is too narrow for your boat trailer. If that's the case, boat trailers must be stored elsewhere. Also, there is no electricity on the dock or in the party shed on the water. This is due to lake levels that sometimes rise in winter time.
We cannot guarantee lake levels. You may check the Duke Power Company Lake Wateree website for current information of depth of water.
You will find a notebook on the kitchen counter that contains information about the house. Please note that we charge a 70.00 cleaning fee which must be left in cash or check upon departure. Also, renters must remove all household trash from the house upon departure.
