The house is centrally located between Bangor and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. It is an excellent home base for exploring the area in every direction. You can hop on a bus or ferry to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor and leave the worries of the car behind. Drive Downeast along the coast to see lighthouses, blueberry fields and fishing villages. Visit the Queen city of Bangor – home of Stephen King. Or take in the natural beauty of the Blue Hill Peninsula. Or keep it close to home for shopping and dining in Downtown Ellsworth – the heart of our city. The opportunities for sight seeing are endless.
Although the house is located in town, the backyard has a rural feel. There are many acres of forested trails that you are welcome to walk. All the houses in the neighborhood are owned by the same owner who lives on the property and is dedicated to providing a safe and well maintained campus. The neighborhood was established in the mid 1800’s when the lumber trade was flourishing and logs were driven down the Union River. The historic buildings remain today most notably the Union Congregational Church which is still in service and is adjacent to the campus.
We are always available to provide anything you need for a comfortable stay but also understand that folks need privacy and their own space. We have made every effort to make this an affordable place where you can relax and feel at home.
This property is part of a large campus including other buildings, gardens, lawns, trails and forest. If you are looking for lodging for a large group, we have another house on the grounds at 37 North Street - a short stroll on the lawn past vegetable gardens, a chicken coop, chukar aviary and an apple orchard. We welcome guests to walk the trails in the woods or take a nibble out of the garden if anything is ripe.+ More
