THE SPACE: Our cabin has an open floor plan with 2 full bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and a queen posturpedic sleeper in the living room. There’s both an open and screened-in porches that are SO incredible, you will never want to leave!! We literally thought of every little extra that WE would want while on vacation to make your trip to our home unforgettable. As you walk in our home, you will be greeted with exquisite décor and nothing but coziness!! You won’t help but notice the gorgeous antler chandelier in the dining area, double ceiling fan in the living room area and authentic Canadian black bear rug hanging by the stairs. Snuggling up to the fireplace won’t get any easier with our gas stone fireplace during those chilly evenings. You can watch the mountains from our large picture windows or watch your favorite show or the championship game on our flat screen TVs with Direct TV Programming. We also have new appliances for your convenience.
• Upstairs Loft Master Bedroom - King Sleep Number Bed
• Downstairs Bedroom - Queen Bed
• Living Room – Queen Posturpedic Pull Out Bed (please read additional information on the pull out bed below)
We do not have “musty” bedspreads or furniture in our home. We have stayed in many VRBO’s and resorts and are pretty critical travelers. We don’t claim our little cabin to be luxurious, but we would never misrepresent it. We know there is a wide selection in what you find when you get to your destination. Our cabin IS a functional home so it’s not perfect. You will not be disappointed, we promise. *Pull out bed: Please keep in mind that even though this is a posturpedic pull out, it’s still a “pull out” so again, we would never misrepresent this as any sort of luxury sleep. We do have a queen air mattress we have used for our own family with an air pump. Kids don’t seem to mind but adults may want to place the air mattress on top of the pull out bed. Everyone has a difference personal preference.
CABIN EXTERIOR: There is an open front porch (with rockers for days) and a screened-in back porch with a lounge and dining area as well to enjoy your morning coffee or a gourmet meal, as that crisp mountain air hits your cheeks! They are both great open areas to read a good book, or use our WiFi to browse ESPN or Pintrest. And for those chilly nights, our fire pit is a must! We have provided a gas grill for those awesome mountain cookouts on our deck. There is no outdoor hot tub at Whiskey Barrel Lodge. We focus on providing a germ/chemical free environment for our guests. A hot tub compromises our hygienic standards. If a hot tub is important, we can direct guests to a nearby club for a daily fee.
THINGS TO DO: The best part of our home is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! You are literally within minutes from golfing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, kayaking, pontoon rentals on Lake Hiawassee, tubing down the Toccoa River (which hosted the 1996 Olympics), hiking, zip-lining, shopping, SEVERAL waterfalls, scenic railways and the new Harrah’s Casino! Trout fishing is THREE miles away! The closest attraction is the world renowned John Campbell Folk School just 7 miles away in Brasstown, NC. It offers week-long and weekend classes in blacksmithing, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography, storytelling and writing. Check out their website for a list of upcoming classes and events. For our most adventurous guests, you are a day’s drive from snow skiing at the Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie Valley, NC (76 miles away) and visit the The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC (113 miles away), by entering the South end entrance to the famous Blue Ridge Parkway. Helen, GA which is approximately 40 minutes away was ranked in the top 10 Octoberfest destinations in the U.S.
GUEST PRIVACY: How private is the cabin? We’re on a mountain community where each home is located on approximately one half acre. Out of 40 homes, 10 are full time residents. The rest of the homes are vacant until the owners come for summers, holidays or the fall. We cannot speak out of turn or predict when other owners in the surrounding homes will be there, but it's been our experience (so far) that summer is when owners visit most. Even with a full mountain, it's a very quiet community and we ask all vacationers to please respect the tranquility of the neighborhood, and Whiskey Barrel Lodge.
ROAD ACCESS/PARKING: NO 4x4 vehicles required!! However, even though our home is located on a PAVED road, we would highly recommend a four wheel drive vehicle during the winter months ONLY. (Please check the weather in Murphy prior to your arrival to plan accordingly. We are unable to predict how white our winters will be). The road up to our house is a single lane road & can be steep in some areas. In the event another vehicle is coming down, the locals will pull off to the side & waive you on. We understand this can be intimidating if you have never driven in the mountains, but is very common & easy to get used to/maneuver. We would never misrepresent our road access for your safety. Our driveway fits three vehicles. It IS safe for MOTORCYCLES. We have hosted many riders in the past who have appreciated the heads up.
RATES/DISCOUNTS: We offer a discount for John C. Campbell Folk School students (with proof of PAID registration only) & reservations with only 2 guests who will be using only ONE bedroom/bathroom. Our prices are firm. Negotiating for rates that are already set in the listing is unprofessional for owners to do, so we do not partake in haggling. If our rates are beyond your budget, you may want to consider altering your price range using VRBO’s filter. We know you work hard for your money and do our best to keep affordable rates. Please read our reviews and see for yourself what to expect when staying with us. PAYMENT: Despite VRBO payment options, you may receive a discount on your entire stay if you pay by a personal Paypal account. Rates are the same, but you will save on additional fees NOT set by the owner. (See discounts below to see if you qualify for discounts) If you choose to book directly with the owner, you MUST PROVIDE proof of PAID trip insurance covering a minimum of $3k coverage to our home for the length of your stay. (VRBO offers this for $79 when booking directly through them)This option removes “security deposits” from the reservation. It’s less of a hassle for both owners & guests. Please email the owner directly at punkin5160@ for more information. You may TEXT ONLY at 813-486-9880. We work full time & live on a farm. We are a very busy family, so its difficult to respond to phone calls & voice mails. Unknown numbers aren’t answered due to marketers. If you request to book directly with the owner via Paypal, keep in mind that guests using the “instant book” option on VRBO will bump your reservation if they book your same dates. It is a “first pay, first stay” process. REQUIRED RENTAL DOCUMENTS: Without this information we are unable to provide the property address & access information. THE MINIMUM RENTAL AGE FOR OUR HOME IS 25 YEARS OLD. THE PERSON SIGNING THE RENTAL AGREEMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RENTAL PROVISIONS & ARE SUBJECT TO FEES DUE TO DAMAGES OUTLINED IN THE RENTAL AGREEMENT.
GUEST LIMIT: Keep in mind that although the maximum capacity is for 6 people, it is only a 1088sf cabin. If there are 6 ADULTS in your party (rather than 2 adults/2 children for example), it is possible that the adults MAY begin to lose a bit of personal space. Everyone is different in preference, but we would never misrepresent our cabin.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE CHOOSING YOUR VRBO: (1)When sifting through profiles, READ descriptions thoroughly to learn as many details as possible about who’s home you are staying in (real estate rental chain vs. owners) and what to expect. (2) How do the photos grab you? Some listings hide bathroom or area photos. Be comfortable with the layout of the home & area you rent. Some of these go-pro or creative angler pictures don’t show other homes in the area, or depict the smells or quality of items inside the home. (3)“NO REVIEW” designation may indicate that the home owner has omitted their reviews due to negative feedback. VRBO gives owners an option to respond to all reviews whether positive or negative. (4)Keep in mind that owners who are flexible in pricing are just as flexible in the quality of their homes & service to you as the guest. You definitely get what you pay for. (5)We are proud to share our home on VRBO with OTHER owners. We do share information that other owners don’t think of sharing with potential guest & in no way are attempting to take anyone’s business. There are some INCREDIBLE homes on here. We know. We have stayed in many and really researched what guests (like you) are looking for when staying in a privately owned home vs. a hotel. We have also been crushed when arriving at a home that was falsely advertised. We wasted our hard earned money because we were told we should've asked ahead of time & no “agreement” was signed. This happened to us ONCE & I refuse to do the same to any of our guests. We take pride in keeping the VRBO an HONEST business for us, for you & all owners partaking in the same endeavor:)
