Cherish the stillness while sipping your morning coffee. Take in the majestic scenery where the Atlantic Ocean meets the LaHave River. Savour spectacular sunsets over the LaHave Islands from the south-west facing patio. Curl up with a good book or plug in your favourite playlist; enjoy your vacation!
Whitecaps Retreat is a vacation home that offers peaceful seclusion with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. This hidden gem is nestled within a mature hardwood forest which was once cultivated as farmland. Walking the property you will see historical remnants of stonewalls and deer grazing in the old apple orchard overlooking Creaser’s Cove. The landscape, seascape and wildlife offer an exquisite sensory experience; a perfect spot if you are looking to get away from it all.
The home is custom built, designed specifically for vacation getaways (please see the floor plan for further details). The décor has a mix of modern and traditional rustic appeal. It is meant to be a vacation home you can share with family and friends or a retreat for renewing and restoring energy.
VRBO will be updated with photos and videos as Whitecaps reaches completion at the end of June/ early July. We are very pleased that construction is running on schedule. For now, please read on or contact us for further information.
Whitecaps property is on the Kraut Point peninsula stretching from Creaser’s Cove on the east to the sandy beach at low tide on the west. From the crest in the middle of the property there are a panoramic views of the ocean on 3 sides. Creaser’s Cove is known for its deep waters, a favourite spot among sailors. The Creaser’s Cove side of Whitecaps is the best location for launching kayaks, paddle boards, and other small water crafts while the west side is perfect for beachcombing, walks, and swimming.
This region of Nova Scotia is known for its warm waters where the LaHave River meets the Atlantic Ocean. During low tide, explore the private beach surrounding Whitecaps. A warm beach with shallow sand bars is a rare experience on the East Coast (see photos and videos of our girls playing on the beach last summer). If it’s surf you are looking for, Hirtle's and Kingsburg beaches are mere minutes away.
The house was built with accessibility in mind. The shower in the larger bathroom is “walk-in” with grab bars, not “wheel-in”. Please let us know if you need a transfer bench or shower chair. The beds have lush linens at a standard height for transfers of roughly 21”. The bathroom shared between bedroom #1 and #2 has 36” width doors. Unfortunately we could not achieve the wide doorways for the second bathroom (with tub); these doorways are a standard width of 29”. There are stairs to the beach, they are located roughly 100’ from the back verandah. The walk is over uneven ground so not accessible for a wheeled walker or w/c. Hirtle's beach has a lovely boardwalk and is very close to Whitecaps.
We are located minutes from Lunenburg, a World Heritage UNESCO site and home of the Bluenose II sailing schooner. In the town you will find restaurants, galleries, a museum, quaint book stores and charming shops near the waterfront. The LaHave ferry is a 5 minute drive from Whitecaps. The cable ferry takes you to the well known LaHave Bakery. Park your car and take the ferry across or drive on board to explore the south side of the LaHave River.
